Spring is arriving!

The past few days have brought about way more sunshine and weather above 70 degrees. I may not be rejoicing the melting of snow like my New England family and friends, but people here have a whole different concept of cold and what keeps them inside. It's nice to be able to bring the kiddos out again (even though our cold season lasted about three weeks). It may get cold again after this February thaw, but I'm enjoying being able to hang out with our porch door open and let Dex run in and out as he pleases. Constantly supervised of course. I'm pretty excited because today Logan and I got some new bubbles and sidewalk chalk so we can start making our little balcony a playplace for Dex. Next up is a way to creatively make it safer because the bars are pretty far apart and then perhaps a water table for the little man to splash around in. (Hint hint that Declan's birthday is coming up soon guys!)

But we have been able to sit out and eat ice pops and watch the emergency vehicles drive by. Stopping and watching that boy makes my heart stop.

Today I had the day off so we had a morning of sleeping in, pancakes, and then Logan and I dropped the little one off at school for a bit. We went to Target and had to buy some shorts for Dex since it's getting warmer. Anyone that has 2T or 3T summer clothes let us know! We're running out of hand-me-downs that fit! Then we actually went to the movies. In the middle of the day. And ate appetizers and chocolate chip cookies and held hands. It was really nice to have some together time that wasn't spent just running errands or doing chores around the house. I am so in love with that man.

Now I'll be off to picking up Dex and probably hitting the park. Or maybe the hardware store to figure out something for our balcony. Any suggestions about putting up plywood or rope or anything is appreciated!

Happy warmer weather!

Snow Day

Here we are, in Austin TX celebrating our first Texas snow day. This morning it was pretty slippery and I'm glad to not have to be travelling with the tons of other people that have no idea how to drive on icy roads. We have spent our morning with Declan sleeping in while I watched trashy TV, then meeting up with Daddy to go and get hot chocolate and a blueberry muffin. Now we're back home, Dex is playing with his toys and I need to get to washing some dishes. However, after hanging out with people at the coffee shop I may have a new outlook on being here. I really like being here, and love the weather... I just need to start being more active about forming some friendships. I think that once I have some people to hang out with I'll start feeling more like myself again.

And about the haircut. We did it. I got those little boy curls cut off. I'm hoping that since my whole side of the immediate family has curly hair that he continues to have curly hair, but I'm hoping even more that this solves the problem of him digging at his ears now that his hair isn't tickling them. And here are the pictures of our now so-much-more grown up boy.

Sorry for the runny nose and not-too-happy look. He really wanted to push the buttons on the camera.

Rainy Weekend

What a rainy weekend we are having here. It is really nice, actually. It is nice to sit inside and listen to the rain falling on the roof and through the trees in our bedroom and be able to hear the cars swishing through the wetness in the dining room. It's the kind of rain that isn't disgusting or nasty... it is nice and light and makes you know that the earth is getting the replenishing that it needs. A good slow soaking rain. It makes me want to cuddle up and watch too many movies with the little one and go to the coffee shop and sip hot chocolate and eat muffins and bagels. It made us stay inside and get some cleaning done but it was still nice to venture out to spend some time with Logan's family last night. While I do love snow (at the beginning of the Winter anyway), it is really nice to get to experience something totally different. Today it is 50 and rainy. I think tomorrow or Tuesday it is supposed to be 67. Who knows what the future will bring, but I'm glad to escape at least one snowy Winter.

I'm excited about the ultrasound tomorrow. I'm ready to be able to see things and put any doubts to rest. I have been talking to the baby and sending good vibes and love, so hopefully everything will go in a great direction. I've still been a little nervous to get too attached. I'm hoping that after tomorrow I am able to fully enjoy this pregnancy and bask in the life that I am (with Logan's help obviously) creating. I'm feeling good for the most part. I want to be able to enjoy the last few months with my little man as a one and only. I want to fully be able to think about the changes that our family will have to make in the next few months in order to work financially with jobs and daycare and such. I want to feel peace. For now I'm almost there... hopefully after tomorrow I will be all the way there.

Sunshine

The last few days have been pretty great. I spent the weekend NOT being stuck without a car. We had a nice BBQ on Monday and it was really nice to see my friends. Yesterday was muggy, but the thunderstorm cleared that up... and it caused the boys to take super naps. Then I went out to see Sex and the City with Jess and Dayna last night. I felt bad that Declan had spent so many nights not in his own crib recently (although I was with him for most of the time... just not at our house) but it was so nice to be able to go out and hang out with my girls. We then found a place with half price apps, AND they gave us a free pizza in addition to the one that apparently had too many bubbles in it? We thought they were both delicious and ended up with so much pizza.

The moving/packing is going ok. We have one big shelf packed up and given away already... which isn't that much, but it's better than my usual idea that there should be no packing before the day of the move. So... it's looking like Texas is still on the top of the list. There were a few set-backs, but I think it's in our hearts and will end up happening. Just not quite sure how and exactly when yet. Logan put in for a transfer, so we have to see how all that pans out and what happens my way with a job. For now we're just blowing in the wind and seeing where life takes us. And instead of worrying about our next step I think I'm just going to enjoy the ride. We have each other. We'll make it work.

Spring? Hello? You seem so close!

I haven't been on here much lately. I've mostly been trying to enjoy the warm weather. The enjoyment has been pretty interrupted by homework. Logan has been trying to be good about forcing me to do it in order to make us all less miserable in the end. I understand his point. I could go into a rant about the merits of doing things earlier just to get them done (cough cough clean the apartment cough) and be less miserable, but I'll stop myself.

I should get back to homework, but I'll bask in remembering the beauty of the last few days. I made it out to Castle Island with both MY boys (Dex and Logan) and THE boys (Dex and Leo). It is so nice to not be cooped up in the house. They can go outside and just roam. However, I see the Declan is getting a bit more frustrated recently. I think he is upset because he just wants to be able to walk and isn't there yet. Hopefully it will happen soon.

Here are some pics from our lovely times outdoors.

Dreaming of warm weather

Ok, so after kicking my feet for a few minutes (like a three-year-old... and I'm well versed in three-year-olds kicking their feet) I got back to my homework and finished up. I even had time to go grocery shopping with the boys after and watch a movie with Logan. Paper Heart. Cute. Check it out.

Today was fairly uneventful. We're all starting/ending/in the middle of being a bit under the weather. Next week is vacation and I wish I was going somewhere warm.

Thinking warm thoughts...
